Malawi: Open Mic Word Sessions Returns With a Bang

Blantyre — Open Mic poetry word session organizer, Yankho Seunda has said people in the country should expect more poetry and fun this year comparing to the previous years.

Open Mic session a weekly event organized by Vilipanganga Movement was established as one way of creating opportunities for old and upcoming poets to explore their talents and at the same time voice out on issues affecting the society.

In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Thursday in Blantyre, Seunda said fans should expect to be treated to lots of surprises at every session as part of the New Year package.

"We believe that this year, we will have new poets with new aspects on the scene," he said, adding that, "As a way of improving our art, we have decided to come up with poetry writing sessions at the end of every month to reach out many."

Seunda observed that nothing had changed on the day of the event and on the issue of charges.

"Entry to the event remains to be free of charge and we are doing this to keep what we promised our fans.

"Our meeting day and place still remains at Kwaharaba Art Gallery every Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm," he added.

Open Mic session started in 2017 and it has helped a lot of young and old poets by giving them a platform to perform at the same time unearth their talents.
