Somalia: NISA Says Al-Shabaab Operative Arrested in Mogadishu

100 Shabaab ‘dead’ in battle

Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] said it captured an Al-Shabab member during a covert operation carried out in Mogadishu on 18th January 2019.

NISA announced the arrest in a statement on its Twitter account on Friday, seen by Radio Shabelle.

"In a careful and planned operation, the security forces detained a member leading Al-Shahab Amniyat operation in Mogadishu," said NISA in the Twitter post.

The spy agency did not disclose the identity of the militant but said he was the kingpin of Al-Shabab's Amniyat wing operating in the Somali capital.

Al-Shabab has stepped up attacks in the capital as part of its struggle to topple the Western-backed Somali Federal government based in Mogadishu and fighting AMISOM.
