Somalia: Somali Forces Carry Out Security Sweep in Beledweyne Town

100 Shabaab ‘dead’ in battle

The security forces in Beledweyne town, central Somalia have conducted a massive operation overnight in response to the latest insecurity incidents.

The planned operation by the forces was carried out in several neighborhoods in Beledweyne town, the regional capital of Hiraan, according to the local residents.

The purpose of this operation was to ensure the security and the fight against elements linked to the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabab.

Nearly 10 people were reportedly arrested in the operation, who have been arrested at the city's main police station and are under questioning.

Beledweyne has been stable in the past few years compared to other towns in the region, where Al-Shabab imposed a blockade on its former strongholds currently under Somali government control.
