Angola: Monument Flag Hoisted for Sixth Time to Mark February 4

Luanda — The Monument flag was hoisted on Monday for the sixth time in Luanda to celebrate the 58th anniversary of the beginning of the National Liberation Armed Forces (February 4, 1961), which is being marked today throughout the country, whose Central act happens in Cabinda.

The flag, weighing 40 kilos, 18 meters long and 12 meters wide, supported by a 75-meter-high mast, was hoisted by the Minister of National Defense, Salviano de Jesus Sequeira, at Luanda's Military History Museum.

Along with the flag flying, in Luanda, the date was marked by the laying of a wreath at the monument of the unknown soldier, a ceremony led by the minister of Old Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos "Liberdade".

The monument, inaugurated on September 23, 2017 by the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, is a recognition to all those who gave their lives for the emergence of an independent, strong, modern, democratic and respected nation in the international context.

In Luanda, the provincial act to remember the heroic fighters is led by the governor, Sérgio Luther, in the Historic March 4, in the municipality of Cazenga.

In statements to the press, National Defense Minister Salviano de Jesus Sequeira "Kianda", without depreciating the participation of other citizens to trigger the beginning of the armed struggle, indicated that the initiative led by Paiva Domingos da Silva and Imperial Santana was a very courageous act of attacking Portuguese units with sticks and machetes.
