Angola: Education Sector Pledges to Build New Classrooms

Luanda — Education Ministry (MED) predicts to open 1,439 new classes by 2020 to reduce the number of students outside the education system.

The data point to 2,016 new classrooms as having been opened this school year.

The public education system has 18, 297 schools, accounted for 97, 459 classrooms.

At least 10.6 million general education students have been enrolled in the normal teaching system for 2019/20 academic year.

There is a change of six percent, compared to the previous school year of 2018.

The minister of Education, Cândida Celeste, who was speaking at a press conference, said it was too early to establish the exact number of children out of the school system, in view of the ongoing plan to open new classrooms.

The Executive expects to build 5,582 new classrooms by 2022.
