8th North African Development Forum to Discuss Smart Maritime Transport in Marrakech

Marrakech — The 8th edition of the North Africa Development Forum will take place on Saturday 23 March in Marrakech under the theme: "Blue Economy in North Africa: Smart Maritime Transport in facilitating International Trade in the digital era".

The forum will take place on the margins of ECA's 52nd Session and Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development and will provide a platform for information exchange and dialogue on the economic potential of blue economy and its integration in African development policies and strategies. The meeting will include a presentation on maritime transport in North Africa as a driver of growth for foreign trade and especially intra-African trade, as the AfCFTA is about to come into force. The ECA Blue economy policy handbook developed in support to national efforts to formulate blue economy strategies will be presented on this occasion.

A relatively new concept, Blue economy allows countries to combine the responsible and sustainable use of aquatic and marine resources while harnessing their economic potential. The ECA Office for North Africa's 8th Forum will provide national, regional and international institutions representatives, North African private sector representatives and participants at the 52nd Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development with an opportunity to further the debate on this topic and pursue their discussions through an electronic platform that will be launched on this occasion.
