Uganda: Man Beheads Son, Commits Suicide

Kakumiro — Police in Kakumiro District are investigating a case in which a 35-year-old man allegedly killed his son before hanging himself.

Evaristo Muhangi, a resident of Mukore village in Nkooko Sub county, Kakumiro District allegedly beheaded Onesmus Twinamasiko, his three-year-old son, before hanging himself in his bedroom.

Kakumiro District Police Commander, Mr Najib Waiswa said preliminary investigations reveal that Muhangi who reportedly had a mental problem scared off his wife who fled the house and later killed his son.

He said the motive of the murder is not clear because some residents claimed that Muhangi had a mental problem.

"We are not taking it [case] lightly because someone else could have beheaded the boy and killed the man before hanging the body but investigations will help us to know the truth. We have allowed relatives to go on with burial arrangements after a post-mortem," Waiswa said.
