The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) has begun the search for a substantive chief executive officer to replace former CEO Engineer Gloria Magombo.
Eng Magombo left Zera in September last year following her appointment by President Mnangagwa to assume the position of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Power Development.
Industrial Psychology Consultants (IPC), who are assisting in the recruitment of a suitable candidate for the position of Zera CEO, announced at the weekend that the search for the top job has begun.
Currently, Mr Eddington Mazambani is the acting CEO.
IPC said the CEO is responsible for leading the execution of Zera's mandate and long-term strategy with a view of creating stakeholder value.
"The CEO's leadership role also entails being ultimately responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing the company's long-term and short-term plans.
"The CEO acts as a direct liaison between the board and management," said IPC in a statement.
Some of the CEO's duties and responsibilities include the development of Zera's strategy to maximise stakeholder value and deliver on the mandate as outlined in the Energy Regulatory Authority Act, national blueprints and Government policies such as the Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP).
Further, the selected candidate would also be expected to align the activities of the Authority with relevant laws, and ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, working closely and effectively with the Ministry of Energy and Power Development and relevant Government departments.
The CEO is also expected to facilitate sound local, regional and international relations with relevant stakeholders, "with a view to ensure that the objectives of the Act and the strategy governing Zera are achieved".
Zera is looking for candidates who are well-versed with the energy sector, who are holders of degrees in the fields of engineering, finance, economics, physical science, law, energy or a related field.
The applicants should also have at least 10 years' experience, five of which must be in a relevant senior management role.
Zera is a body corporate established in terms of the Energy Regulatory Authority Act (Chapter 13 :23) of 2011 and mandated to regulate the entire energy sector in the country in a fair, transparent, efficient and cost-effective manner for the benefit of the consumers and energy suppliers.
