Angola: Malanje - Minister Announces Suspension of 200 Houses Project Per Municipality

Malanje — Angola's minister of Spatial Planning and Housing Ana Paula de Carvalho has announced the government plan to suspend the construction programme of 200 houses each municipality and focus on self-directed construction.

Ana Paula de Carvalho released the information on Monday after visiting the 200 home project - of which 108 houses only have been completed - in the municipality of Cangandala, northern Malanje province. "We do not plan to build more houses, but create new plot of lands for infrastructure so that people build their own homes under self-directed construction scheme," she stressed.

The minister recalled the government will conduct a study to determine execution level of the 200 houses in Cangandala in order to pay the contractors for the work done. The minister also visited the construction of the Malanje satellite city, in the neighborhood of Carreira de Tiro II, having stressed the need to meet the deadline for completion of the first phase scheduled for April 2020. The minister's visit culminated in a meeting with the governor of Malanje Norberto dos Santos, municipal administrator of Malanje and provincial directors.
