Nigeria: Child Molestation - Jos Community Hand Over Man, 54, to Police

22 March 2019

Residents of Gut, near Rayfield Resort in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State have apprehended and handed over a 54 year-old man identified as James Otuneruke to the police for allegedly molesting two minors in the area.

Daily Trust gathered that the minors are 11 and 13-year-old sisters whose father has been bedridden.

A neighbour, Jemimah Bayei, whose vigilance led to the arrest, told Daily Trust that she once had cause to accost Otuneruke when she noticed the two girls sneaking into his home but he told her the girls went on an errand for him.

She saw the girls once again attempting to sneak into the man's home at night. "My landlady had interrogated them and they confessed that the man had been touching them.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Isaac Akinmoyede, confirmed that the suspect was in their custody and would be charged to court as soon as they complete investigations.

CP Akinmoyede while responding to a question from Daily Trust on the arrest of James Otuneruke urged residents of the state to remain calm adding that, "as long as I remain the CP here, I would ensure justice is done."
