Giovannie Biha Visits Rabat in Preparation for Arfsd, Meets With Sro-Na Team

Rabat — Deputy Executive Secretary Giovannie Biha met with stakeholders on 27-28 April in Rabat, Morocco, to foster partnerships and synergies on economic development and inclusive growth for Africa, and discuss preparatory arrangements for the upcoming African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD).

Ms. Biha met with Philippe Poinsot, UN Resident Coordinator for Morocco, Mohamed Benyahia, Secretary General to the State Secretary for Sustainable Development, Mohammed Tawfik Mouline, Managing Director of the Royal Institute for Strategic Studies (IRES) and Bouchra Rahmouni, Director in charge of research, partnerships and events at the Policy Center for the New South.

She also held a staff meeting with the ECA Office for North Africa (ECA-NA) in which she discussed Phase I and Phase II of UN reforms, the new ECA internal processes and coordination mechanisms, CoM 2019 successes as well as preparations for the ARFSD that runs from 16-18 April in Marrakesh.

The fifth session of the ARFSD will be held under the theme "Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality" and outcomes will feed into the 2019 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) that will be held in New York in July 2019 focusing on the same theme and selected SDGs.

Outcomes will also be used for policy advocacy, formulation and implementation at regional and national levels.
