Tonota — Tutume Sub-district Council chairperson Mr Ishmael Mokgethi has appealed to various churches across the country to pray for peaceful and credible elections to be held in Botswana this year.
Giving a keynote address at the official opening of the 2019 Easter Convention for the Bethlehem City of Christ Church in Zion in Tonota on April 20, Mr Mokgethi also asked congregants of various churches to register in large numbers during the ongoing supplementary registration.
Botswana is the only country, not only in Africa, but in the world that has never postpone nor cancelled elections, a sign that the country is a symbol of democracy, said Mr Mokgethi.
He explained that as congregants, it was their constitutional right to register and participate in the national elections.
Mr Mokgethi also praised Bethlehem City of Christ in Zion for having a solid objective of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the people through sermons and singing.
"The other objective is laying hands on the sick in prophetical services as well as to promote Christian education," he added.
Mr Mokgethi also explained that the church was relevant in everyone's life because there were many emerging issues that needed one to be closer to the Lord to seek guidance.
"For example, when a person is challenged emotionally, socially and otherwise, they need pastors to counsel them," he said.
He therefore said it was their role as church members to drive the vision and the objective of their church, adding that they should recruit more members into the church, especially the youth.
He however asked every church member to retrospect and take a stock of themselves so that they change and focus towards building the church and the nation.
Mr Mokgethi also thanked those who contributed to the development of the church and encouraged all church members to further develop the church and ensure that 'it grows from strength to strength'.
The chairperson also donated 30 garden chairs to the church.
Bethlehem City of Christ Church in Zion was founded by Archbishop Isaiah Setimela and the late Bishop Ezekiel Modiakgotla with a vision to be the first class church that has well-disciplined members who were equipped with skills and knowledge of the Bible.
The theme of the convention was; The Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
