Ethiopia: Laid Off Contract Workers Wrangle With State Power Utility

The Addis Abeba Electric Utility, part of the state-giant Ethiopian Electric Utility terminated the contracts of some 800 day labourers who have been with the company for decades. The day labourers arrived to work on April 9, 2019, only to be told of their termination without any benefits. The utility defends its decision citing new reforms and the necessity to change the image of the company, writes KALEAB GIRMA, FORTUNE STAFF WRITER.
