Conference On Land Policy in Africa

The African Development Bank will host the biennial Conference on Land Policy in Africa from the 4th to 8th November 2019 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. This year's conference theme is "Winning the fight against corruption in the land sector: sustainable pathway for Africa's transformation."

The conference is a tripartite initiative by the African Union Commission, the African Development Bank and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. The Bank is represented in the event organisation by its African Natural Resources Centre (ANRC).

The theme of this 3rd edition of the land conference is drawn from the African Union's Declaration of 2018 as the year of anti-corruption in Africa. The event is expected to attract some 450 participants, including government representatives, traditional leaders, civil society organisations, members of parliament, academicians and development institution officials.

Corruption is a major impediment to efforts to promote governance, socio-economic transformation, peace, security and human rights. Combating corruption by improving good land governance through robust policies and institutions is critical to the realization of the "The Africa We Want," envisioned in the African Union's Agenda 2063.

Call for Abstracts and Conference Registration

The Conference Scientific Committee has launched a call for abstracts under the following sub-themes:

Technology and the future of land administration and management in Africa

Urbanisation, land Use Change and Planning in Africa

Large-scale land investments, economic, social and environmental justice in Africa

Land rights, access and use by women and youth in Africa

Migration, land and regional security in Africa
