Kenya: Police Arrest Three Robbery Suspects in Njoro, Five Escape

Police arrested three suspected criminals following a foiled robbery at Kihingo trading centre in Njoro, Nakuru County, on Tuesday night.

Njoro Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Huka said police arrived at the scene after getting a tip-off from a night guard.

"Police officers received information from a night guard," said Mr Huka.

Speaking to the Nation on phone on Wednesday, Mr Huka said three suspects were arrested while five members of the gang escaped during the 1am incident.

"One suspect escaped with a gunshot wound while four others escaped unhurt," said Mr Huka.

He said crude weapons and phones were recovered at the scene.

Njoro residents have complained about the increase of house break-ins and cattle rustling in the last five months.

Mr Joseph Ngugi a shopkeeper, said burglaries have become rampant in the area.

"We are forced to close our businesses early in fear of a gang which has been terrorising residents," said Mr Ngugi.

Mr Huka said the police will intensify patrols in the area.

He said that the suspects, who were taken to Njoro Police Station, will be arraigned once investigations are complete.
