Kenya: City Lawyer Assa Nyakundi Detained At DCI

Detectives in Nairobi have arrested city lawyer Assa Nyakundi, who is facing charges over his son's death.

Mr Nyakundi was on Wednesday evening being detained a the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters on Kiambu Road.

The lawyer's son, Joseph Bogonko, 29, died in mysterious circumstances on March 17.

Mr Nyakundi was arraigned for manslaughter but last month Directorate of Criminal Investigations head George Kinoti said he believed the charge is a result of a bungled investigation.

The file at Kiambu court does not include scene of crime photos, a scene of crime analysis report or a ballistics report.

Mr Kinoti said the pictures and the reports were intentionally left out of the investigations.

The DCI chief disowned the manslaughter charge against Mr Nyakundi, interdicted investigating officers and ordered a public inquiry into "a major cover-up".

The Director of Public Prosecutions also wanted the manslaughter charges withdrawn, adding that fresh evidence shows the offence was more serious.
