Nigeria: Cable Vandal Electrocuted in Anambra

An unidentified suspected cable vandal was on Sunday morning electrocuted in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government of Anambra State.

The deceased was reported to have gone to one of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company's (EEDC) transformer installations at Ezinifite to steal armoured cable.

It was gathered that as he was trying to remove the cable, he was electrocuted.

Confirming the incident in a statement, Anambra State Police command spokesman, SP Haruna Mohammed, said at about 7:am on Sunday, there was a report at Aguata Police Station through the vigilante commander, Ezinifite, that an unidentified person suspected to be a cable vandal was killed by electrocution while trying to vandalize one of EEDC transformer installations at Ezinifite.

He also said a police patrol team led by the DPO of Aguata division, SP Ayeni Oluwadare, visited the scene of incident and took the victim to the general hospital Aguata where he was confirmed dead on arrival by the medical doctor.

He said the corpse had been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.

He added that police investigation is ongoing to ascertain the identity of the deceased and circumstances surrounding the incident.
