Zambia: Lusaka City Council Shuts 40 Bars

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has closed down 40 bars in Kabwata and Matero constituencies for operating outside stipulated hours.

A combined team of LCC Police, Public Health inspectors and State Police closed the bars during an overnight operation at the weekend.

LCC public relations officer Lisa Ng'oma said the operation started at 22:00 hours on Friday night and ended at 03:00 hours on Saturday.

Ms Ng'oma said the affected bar operators had their licences confiscated and would not be returned until the prescribed fines had been paid while those found to be repeat offenders would be prosecuted in the Fast Track Court this week.
