Angola: Fifth Turbine of Laúca Dam Enters Into Operation

Luanda — The fifth turbine out of the six expected to generate power in the northern Malanje- based Laúca dam entered into operation on Friday increasing the power plant's capacity from 1336MW to 1670MW, Angop has learnt.

According to a note from Médio Kwanza (River) Utilization Department (GAMEK), until the power plant is concluded in 2020, it is expected to generate an overall 2070 MW, which would include the Central Ecologic.

The power generated by Laúca power plant has supplied several provinces of Angola such as Zaire, Uíge, Malanje, Bengo, Luanda, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Huambo, Bié and Benguela.

The hydroelectric dam of Laúca operates mainly for the stability of the National Electric System.
