Mauritius: Measures Taken to Address Shortfall in Production of Certain Crops Highlighted By Agro-Industry Minister

The production of potato from 2015 to 2018 increased from 16, 427 tons to some 18, 500 tons and a further rise of some 2, 000 tons is expected this year if climatic conditions are favourable. Moreover, a series of measures are being taken to address the shortfall in the production of onion and garlic.

This statement was made yesterday by the Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Mahen Kumar Seeruttun, at the National Assembly in reply to a Parliamentary Question concerning a decrease in the production of potato, onion and garlic since 2015 to date.
