Police have since Wednesday, 14 August 2019, been on high alert monitoring different areas in Soweto following incidents of looting at shops reported to be belonging to foreign nationals in Dobsonville, Meadowlands, Rockville, Naledi, Zola, Emdeni and other parts of Soweto.
To this end, eleven suspects have been arrested while police recovered one unlicensed firearm and goods believed to have been stolen during the looting.
The incidents of looting have been condemned by the management of police in Gauteng, while members of the public have also been cautioned to refrain from engaging in criminal activities as a form of protest as they will be identified and arrested
Meanwhile in an unrelated incident, one suspected was arrested during an integrated operation on Thursday afternoon, 15 August 2019, by the Soweto Flying Squad, Tracker and JMPD. The members spotted a white BMW which was reported stolen in Roodepoort and chased the vehicle from Dobsonville to Meadowlands where the car lost control and crashed into a house.
The arrested suspects will appear in Protea Magistrate's Courts in due course.
