South Africa: Two Accused Received Life Imprisonment

Perpetrators of Sexual crimes attack defenceless victims whom they manipulate and brainwash. It is also a known fact that the perpetrators are known to the victims and for the various reasons these victims live in silence whilst trying to deal with these horrific incidents

DURING September 2012 Department of Social Development intervened after neighbours of the victim alerted them about the abuse of a 7-year-old child who was also physical challenged. The incident continuously occurred to the victim who was repeatedly raped by her stepfather while her mother is away and at one stage she was raped in the presence of her mother.

A case of rape was opened and the docket was assigned to Detective Constable Yongama Mkabile. Mkabile sacrifices many hours during investigation until the case was finalised. Suspect was found guilty and was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment at Lady Frere Regional Court on Tuesday 13 August 2019

On Wednesday 14 August 2019, 28-year-old man was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment for rape and 5 years imprisonment for House Breaking. Siyabonga Ngowaxelele 28, was arrested after he raped 54-year-old woman at Ezibeleni during July 2018.

The suspect forcefully gained entrance by breaking windows and on entering the house he dragged the victim who was sleeping together with her old mother and raped her. During the incident the old Gogo who is 102 years tried to intervention and she was assaulted by the suspect. After the suspect ran away.

A case of rape and housebreaking was registered at Ezibeleni. Detective Sgt Vizicelo Witbooi successful opposed bail until suspect was found guilty at Lady Frere Regional Court on Wednesday 14, 2019.

Queenstown Cluster Commander Major General Funeka Siganga congratulated the members by saying she understands the complexity of the investigation and challenges encountered by the members. She extended the profound thanks to the Magistrate Mrs Ngcongolo and her team who have worked with the victims and investigating officers.
