Ghana: Producer Price Inflation Records a Rise

The Producer Price inflation for August 2019 has increasede to 10.2 percent, representing 1.4 percent increase in producer inflation, relative to the rate recorded in July.

At a Press Briefing in Accra, on Thursday, a deputy Government Statistician, Mrs Araba Forson noted that the month-on-month change in the producer price index between July 2019 and August 2019 was 1.2 percent.

She said the mining and quarrying sub-sector recorded an 8.9 percentage increase points over the July rate of 27.6 percent to 36.5 percent in August 2019, while the manufacturing sector which constituted more than two-thirds of the total industry increase by 0.4 percentage points to record 5.8 percent.

For the utilities sub-sector, Mrs Forson stated that there was no increase as it recorded the same inflation rate of 6.9 percent as compared to the month of July, 2019.

She pointed out that for the petroleum sub-sector, the producer inflation kept increasing and decreasing from August 2018 till date, noting that currently the sector recorded an increase of 3.1 percent in the month of August 2019.
