Nairobi — The passenger service of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to Suswa from Nairobi kicked off operations Thursday following Wednesday's maiden ride by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kenya Railways announced that the train service will be operational from Monday to Friday and Sunday, excluding Saturdays.
"We are happy to announce that the SGR Phase 2A will be operational as from October 17," Kenya Railways said.
The train service will have stations in Ngong, Rongai, Nairobi, Mai Mahiu and Suswa which is the final destination.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to shun negative publicity about the SGR project, and pledged to ensure the government completes the rest of the journey to Kisumu and Busia.
"Those talking don't know where the country is going. We will not stop developing the country," he said.
