Kenya: ODM Brigade Thanksgiving Rally After Imran's Victory in Kibra

10 November 2019

Nairobi — The Orange Democratic Movement Party is this afternoon expected to hold a thanksgiving rally after its candidate Imran Okoth secured a convincing victory in the hotly contested Kibra By-Election held on Thursday.

Okoth garnered 24,636 votes with Jubilee Party's McDonald Mariga coming in second with 11,230 votes while Eliud Owalo of the African National Congress with 5,275 votes.

The contest which was billed as a battle between ODM party leader Raila Odinga and Deputy President William Ruto who led campaigns for Mariga, was however characterized by the scenes of electoral violence, voter buying and voter bribery.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Director of Public Prosecution have issued statement stating that they are reviewing the events of the day with a view of apprehending and prosecuting perpetrators of the acts.

Meanwhile ODM legislators and Jubilee Party stalwarts led by Deputy President Ruto yesterday engaged in a blame game over who should be held responsible with each side accusing the other of instigating the acts.
