Botswana: Road Traffic Accident Claims Four Lives Along A1 Highway

Mahalapye - — Four people died on the spot in an accident involving a south bound Mercedes Benz, a truck that was headed in the same direction and a North bound Toyota Hilux Double Cab.

The accident happened November 8 night near Dibete on the A1 Highway. Speaking in an interview, Mahalapye police officer commanding, Senior Superintendent Reuben Mphoeng said all passengers in the Mercedes Benz, a man, a woman and a girl aged seven died on the spot after their car hit the truck from behind, lost control and hit the Hilux Double Cab in which a woman passenger also lost her life.

Senior Superintendent Mphoeng said the impact set the Mercedes Benz ablaze while the occupants of the truck came through unscathed.

The Hilux Double Cab driver sustained minor injuries.

Police investigations continue to determine the cause of the accident.

Senior Superintendent Mphoeng cautioned motorists to always drive safely, avoid driving at night and avoid speeding.

To farmers, he cautioned them to look after their cattle and make sure they do not go astray and end up on roads.
