An intelligence-driven operation conducted in Burgersfort led to an arrest of a 35-year-old suspect on Sunday 10 November. The suspect was part of a group that was about to rob some businesses in the area, including a local Casino.
Police received information about the suspects driving in two vehicles, a Toyota Hilux 28GD6 and a Ford Ranger, both without number plates. The information received was operationalised and an intelligence-driven operation comprising of members from Crime Intelligence Unit, Detectives, the Provincial Operational Command Centre, the K9 Unit and the Public Order Policing Unit was activated to monitor the suspects. The said vehicles were then spotted along the R37 road from Praktiseer towards the Casino. The police pounced on them and nabbed one of the suspects who resides in Mashishing, Mpumalanga. He was found in possession of a firearm with serial numbers filed off and 8 live ammunition.
Meanwhile, the intensified Safer Festive Season Operations that are currently in full swing around the Province, including at Ports of Entry, resulted in the arrests of two hundred and forty six (246) suspects during the past week and the following items were confiscated:
-17 firearms of different calibre
-09 motor vehicles
-TVs, cellular phones, laptops and knives.
The suspects are facing a range of charges such as murder, attempted murder, house robbery, rape, theft, illegal immigration, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, burglary at residences and contravention of Road Traffic Act.
The latest arrests were effected yesterday on Sunday, 10 November 2019 in Polokwane, where three suspects were nabbed for a house robbery that was committed at one of the houses in the CBD in the early hours of Sunday morning. During the arrests, the following items were recovered:
-One Audi vehicle
-One unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Some of the arrested suspects have started appearing before various Magistrate's Courts throughout the Province.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended all members for their crime fighting efforts in the ongoing Safer Festive Season operations and urged community members at large to work with the police in making sure that this festive season becomes the safest one yet.
