Nigeria: Man Docked for Allegedly Assaulting Tricycle Driver

The police on Thursday arraigned a man, Kelechi Friday, in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly assaulting a tricycle driver.

Friday, who resides at Jabi village, Abuja, however, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of joint act, criminal force and assault leveled against him.

The Prosecutor, Ijeoma Ukagha, told the court that the complainant, Mansur Abdullahi, of Airport Road, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on Oct. 19.

Ukagha said the complainant, a tricycle driver, picked the defendant and one Emeka now at large, from Chisco Park and on getting to Jabi park, they refused to pay him.

She said that while the complainant was requesting for his money, the defendant and his friend beat him up.

The prosecutor said during the attack, the complainant's N2,200 got missing.

Ukagha said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79, 397 and 265 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Alhaji Inuwa Maiwada, ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case until Nov. 28, for hearing.
