FIVE new Namibian age group records were established at the final long course gala of the season at the Katutura Municipal Pool over the weekend.
In the boys 13-14 year category, Jose Canjulo of Marlins Aquatic Club broke his own record of 31,78 seconds in the 50m breaststroke with a new time of 30,91 seconds.
In the women's 25-44 category, Lena Brinkmann of Dolphins set a new 200m breaststroke record of 3:37,16 to break Sunel Badenhorst's former record by more than four seconds.
Badenhorst, however, broke her own 400m individual medley record in the same age group category, by more than four seconds with a new time of 7:24,72.
In the men's 25-44 year category, Jan Louis Mostert of Dolphins set a new 400m freestyle record of 5:41,86, and in the same age group category, Adriaan Maritz set a new 100m backstroke record of 1:19,76.
Canjulo established the three best performances of the meeting according to Fina points.
He received 591 points for winning the 50m breaststroke in 30,91 seconds; and 532 points each for winning the 400m individual medley in 5:00,79 and the 100m breaststroke in 1:14,45.
A total of 124 swimmers from four clubs, namely Marlins Aquatic Club, Dolphins, Aqua Swimming and Fitness Club and Phoenix Swimming Academy competed at the gala.
