Botswana: Woman Aged 79 Raped

Francistown — Police in Tonota are searching for a middle aged man of Dukwi who allegedly raped a 79-year-old woman of Gulushabe lands near Tonota on Saturday night.

Tonota police Station Commander, Superintendent Oteng Ngada confirmed in an interview that the police were aware of the identity of the suspect and were searching for him.

He said the matter was reported to the police by the victim's neighbours a day after the incident and the police launched a manhunt but had not yet arrested the suspect .

Superintendent Ngada said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had made a surveillance and observed that the victim was staying alone before attacking her, adding that the sexual assault lasted for almost six hours.

He said the victim, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to a nearby health facility and had been discharged. He said the victim was in a stable condition .
