South Africa: Premier Sisi Ntombela and MEC Montseng Tsiu Commemorate World Aids Day in Koffiefontein, 7 Dec

press release

The Premier of the Free State, Sisi Ntombela accompanied by the MEC for Health, Montseng Tsiu, Members of the Executive Council, Mayors, Councillors, Leaders of Civil Society and Business Leaders will commemorate the Provincial Chapter of the World Aids Day 2019 in Koffiefontein on Saturday, 07 December 2019 starting at 09am at the Koffiefontein Stadium.

This event will be preceded by a health campaign called "Taking Primary Health Care to the People" on Friday, 06 December 2019. The Taking Primary Health Care to the People is a health campaign to encourage healthy habits towards a disease prevention approach to health care as opposed to the hospital based curative approach where we are forced to invest huge amounts of money on treatment of patients.

Health MEC Montseng Tsiu has been fully supported by the Premier of the Free State in implementing this preventative approach to health care because it promises to increase better health outcomes towards a healthier Free State and a long healthy life for all South Africans.

During the Taking Primary Health Care to the People Campaign, the ordinary citizens will be able to freely access a wide range of health care services such as HIV Counseling and Testing, TB Screening, Checking of Blood Pressure, Eye Testing, Diabetes, Cancer Screening, amongst others.

The theme of World AIDS Day 2019 is Communities make the difference: Cheka Impilo. It is our commitment as a province to make sure that we implement the 90-90-90 Strategy. In term of this strategy we are working to ensure that 90% of People Living with HIV should know their HIV status, 90% of those who know HIV+ status must be on ARV Treatment and 90% on Treatment are virally suppressed.

The province is going all out to ensure that all the plans are implemented to prevent new infections as well as to get those that are infected on medication. "We are increasing the levels of education amongst the youth in order to ensure that we attain the ideal of an HIV free generation by 2030" said Tsiu.
