Ghana: Ga Rural Bank Donates to 4 Assemblies in Greater Accra

9 December 2019

The Ga Rural Bank has donated items to four municipal assemblies in the Greater Accra Region in support of the celebration of this year's Farmers' Day.

Valued at GH¢12,000, the items included 15 wheel barrows, 15 knapsack sprayers and 48 pairs of boots.

Beneficiary assemblies included Ga West, Ga South, Ga Central and Weija Gbawe municipalities.

Presenting the items in Accra yesterday, Chairman of the Board of the Ga Rural Bank, Nana Bram Okae II, said the donation was in recognition of the hard work farmers in the various assemblies do in producing food for the populace.

"These items are being given out to support the activities of farmers to be able to produce sufficient food for all citizens. It will be presented to the farmers during the celebration of the Farmers' Day in the various municipalities. We want to encourage them to do more," he noted.

He said the bank would consider proposals for financial support to farmers in its catchment area to enable them expand and increase production.

The bank, he explained, would not renege in its efforts to empower farmers and other businesses for enhanced livelihoods and economic empowerment.

General Manager of the Bank, Daniel Benjamin, said the bank has, within the past 15 years, provided support to farmers during the celebrations in honour of their contribution to economic growth.

"We have provided support in numerous forms to farmers in our catchment areas. Although we don't have the financial strength to undertake capital-intensive support, we will continue to provide the support we can," he said.

A representative of the Department of Food and Agriculture of the Ga South Municipal Assembly, Ezekiel Boyetey, thanked the bank for the support and urged other corporate organisations to offer similar support.

He said the items would motivate the farmers to work harder and produce more food to help the country attain food sufficiency.

He further commended Ghanaian farmers for continuously producing food for the nation despite numerous challenges adding that "we are celebrating you for your hard work and successes."
