Uganda: 12 New High Court Judges Deployed, 21 Others Transferred

13 December 2019

The 12 new judges of the High Court have been deployed to duty stations, two days after they were sworn in by President Museveni at State House Entebbe.

The deployment was effected by outgoing Principal Judge Yorokamu Bamwine, who was recalled from his annual leave.

The administrative head of the High Court also moved 21 judges to new work stations in a bid to achieve efficient delivery of justice.

According to a press statement released by Mr Solomon Muyita, the senior communications officer of the Judiciary, the deployment of the new judges takes immediate effect while those transferred go to their new stations in January next year.

"Following the recent appointment of new judges to the High Court, I have been recalled from leave to effect some changes in management of the Divisions and Circuits. These deployments, arrived at following consultations with top management, are with a view to attaining more efficient delivery of judicial service," the statement reads in part.

Justice Bamwine also tasked the judges transferred to ensure they complete hearing of the cases before them that were in advanced stages and also deliver pending judgments and rulings before assumption of their new roles next year.
