Zambia: Magistrate Books Two Convicts for One-Night Taste of Prison

A COURT magistrate in Lusaka yesterday sent a 17-year-old Grade 11 pupil of Lusaka and another man to spend a night each at a correctional facility as punishment for shoplifting.

In the first case, Magistrate Nsunge Chanda ordered the pupil, resident of Lusaka's John Laing, to spend a correctional facility for stealing polony and a pair of socks worth K60.

"You will come tomorrow for your written facts and sentencing. Go to prison and decide if polony is better than where you sleep peacefully," she said.
