This week a number of civil society organizations sent a letter to the Committee on the Election of the Prosecutor, which meets starting Friday in New York, urging the Committee to establish a vetting process that results in the exclusion of candidates for International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor that commit, condone, or ignore sexual harassment. The Committee on the Election of the Prosecutor ("the Committee"), in its review of candidates for ICC Prosecutor, performs a critical function in ensuring that the next Prosecutor embodies the "high moral character" required by both the Rome Statute and the dignity of the office itself. With this letter, we urge the Committee to establish a vetting and interview process that results in the exclusion of candidates who commit, condone, or ignore sexual harassment in and outside the workplace.
