Nigeria: Katsina Records First Death From COVID-19

The Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Bello Masari has announced the first death from COVID-19 in the state.

He said a 60 years old Dr Aliyu Yakubu, who hailed from Kogi State, died from the disease Saturday at the Air Force Military Hospital Daura after being admitted for only two hours upon returning from Kogi and Lagos State where he stayed for two weeks.

Masari disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Katsina after receiving a brief from the Katsina Anti-Coronavirus committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mannir Yakubu.

He said: "After his death, his sample was checked by the military medical experts and was taken to the NCDC laboratory in Abuja for confirmation.

"The result of the victim came back to the state on Tuesday where it was confirmed that the victim died from Coronavirus."

He said that the state government had commenced contact tracing of persons he met while in Daura.
