A former international, Dahiru Sadi has said despite the gloom caused by COVID-19 pandemic, Nigerian football can still benefit, if football administrators maximally utilise the break caused by the deadly coronvairus to sit down and re-strategise.
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the former Abiola Babes and Ranchers Bees midfielder said even before the lockdown, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, had some outstanding issues to deal with so now that everything has been put on hold, they should get the best out of the bad situation.
He warned that post COVID-19 will ultimately exert a lot of pressure on global sports so the right time to begin to prepare to tackle imminent hiccups that would surface inevitably is now.
Dahiru Sadi also gave an example of the lingering contract renewal between the NFF and the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr as one of the things that should be addressed now that there is enough time to do so.
He said, "It is so disturbing that football is also suffering the impact of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. A lot has been lost within this period of the total lockdown. Football leagues and other sporting activities across the world have been suspended.
"Although nobody can tell when normalcy would return, we are all hoping that God will intervene and things would be normal before the end of the year.
"While we are waiting, the NFF and other sports administrators can use this period to re-strategise. This is another opportunity for them to go back to the drawing.
"All sporting activities have been put on hold so they should sit down and think about the future. It is not going to be easy when this present dust settles so they have to start planning now.
"It will also be good, if the NFF quickly settles the issue of Gernot Rohr's contract renewal. Apart from this, I believe there are also other pending issues that need the attention of the federation," he said.
Speaking further on Rohr's contract renewal, the Coordinator of the national U-20 team said the Franco-German tactician deserves another contract because he has brought stability to the senior national team.
Sadi also said the coach has succeeded in assembling a young squad that is going to serve the nation for so many years.
"Talking about Rohr, I want to say he deserves a new contract because of the many achievements he has recorded with the team.
"Since he arrived, there is no longer crisis in the team and he has been able to build a team around youngsters who have many years left in the game.
"So in my candid opinion, he should be allowed to continue as Super Eagles technical adviser," Sadi concluded.
