Africa: Continent Nears 150,000 Cases After 2 Million Tests Performed

As of June 1, confirmed the COVID-19 case total from 55 African countries has reached 146,793. Further, 2,235,104 COVID-19 tests have been conducted across the continent.

Reported deaths in Africa have reached 4,222 and recoveries 61,772.

South Africa has the most reported cases – 32,683, with deaths numbering 683. Other most-affected countries include Egypt (24,985 cases), Nigeria (10,162), Algeria (9,394), and Ghana 8,070.

The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
