Africa: Continent Nears 200,000 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

As of June 9, the confirmed COVID-19 case total from 55 African countries has reached 196,368. Reported deaths in Africa have reached 5,364 and recoveries 86,111.

South Africa has the most reported cases – 50,879, with deaths numbering 1,080 Other most-affected countries include Egypt (35,444 cases), Nigeria (12,801), Algeria (10,265), and Ghana (9,638).

The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
