Nigeria: Legislator Decries Politicisation of Security Issues

Jos — Member representing Jos North/ Bassa Constituency at the House of Representatives, Haruna Maitala, has condemned the politicisation of security matters.

Speaking with newsmen in Jos on the persisting attacks and killings in his Bassa Constituency, Maitala said efforts were on to tackle the situation.

He said the constituency was one of the most sensitive and delicate in the state because of the tribal and religious sentiments.

"In Irigwe community, a committee has been set by the traditional council and I am glad to tell you that I sat down with the committee some weeks ago, and we fine-tuned our line of action. I promised to contact the Senator representing the Northern zone in the state to discuss about the issue of security in our constituency because security should not be taken as a political issue.

"Though, the senator is in PDP and I am in APC, nonetheless we should come together and work hand in hand to solve the problem. I will also bring the member representing the area in the state assembly, and we will sit down to bring out solution that would tackle this problem once and for all," he said.
