Angola: Governor Highlights Journalists Efforts to Combat COVID-19

Dundo — The governor of Lunda Norte province, Ernesto Muangala, stressed the commitment of journalists in raising awareness among the population about prevention measures and in combating the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

The Governor made this recognition during the working meeting with the directors of the health units, recognizing that this is a difficult task, as it exposes journalists to risk, just like doctors.

He appealed to the professionals to continue with their deontological posture, informing with truth, accuracy and objectivity, avoiding contents that cause alarmism and/or panic among the population.

"As a result of your work, the population has heeded the advice of the health authorities on measures to prevent this invisible enemy, so we call on you to continue with this posture and help the government to fight this pandemic," he acknowledged.

For his part, he called on the heads of health units to redouble biosecurity measures in hospitals, using the means provided by the Interministerial Commission for the protection of technicians and patients.

He reiterated the call for financial budgets to prioritise the purchase of drugs, biosecurity material and food, in order to prevent inpatients' relatives from coming to hospitals.
