Tunisia: Italy Disburses Over €25 Million to Support Decentralisation Process in Tunisia

Tunis/Tunisia — Italy has disbursed €25 million to support the decentralisation process in Tunisia and another 6 million to train municipal executives, Italian Ambassador to Tunisia Lorenzo Fanara said on Thursday.

At a meeting with Minister of Local Affairs Lotfi Zitoun, the Italian diplomat reaffirmed his country's commitment to accelerate the mobilisation of necessary funds dedicated to municipalities, said a statement from the Ministry.

Zitoun stressed that decentralisation is an "irreversible strategic choice" to carry out the process of democratic transition, welcoming the support provided by Italy in this direction.

The meeting focused on bilateral cooperation and ways to develop it, particularly in the area of decentralisation.
