Yesterday, police officers from the EThekwini District Trio Task Team arrested a 21-year-old man. He has been linked to a number of cases that were reported in the Wentworth policing precinct. He will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court tomorrow, 05 August 2020.
He was arrested on two counts of attempted murder where a 36-year-old man and a friend were shot and injured on Lansdowne Road on 30 July 2020. Further charges include cases of robbery, malicious damage to property and another case of attempted murder. It is alleged that on 27 July 2020, two men fired shots at a 22-year-old male whilst he was at his residential premises on Hime Street.
The suspect is in police custody and he will be charged accordingly. Further investigations are being conducted to link the suspect with other violent incidents in the area.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed the latest crackdown on criminality in Wentworth. "It is pleasing to see that the strong partnership between the police and the community is bearing fruits. Criminals will soon realise that they are not wanted in Wentworth," he said.
