Kenya: Bungoma Politician Wanted Over Assault Claims

Police in Bungoma are looking for a local politician over assault accusations.

Officials say Noel Nyongesa Makeni, Kanduyi parliamentary aspirant, has been on the run for a long while.

Bungoma South police boss Wilson Nanga said there is a warrant of arrest against the politician.

"He assaulted Victor Wafula, a businessman in Bungoma town and fled. The complainant filed a report but the accused person has been on the run," said Nanga.

He added, "We will arrest him any time and arraign him to face assault charges. Nobody is above the law," the police boss said.

He said the suspected alongside a group of about five people raided and assaulted Mr Wafula in Nabongo estate on March 15.

The incident was reported at the Bungoma Police station OB 47/16/3/20 and since then Mr Nyongesa has been on run.

The complainant has decried the slow pace which police officers are handling the matter.

"I was assaulted and injured by the accused person, I want justice. Police should arrest and charge him in court, " said Wafula.
