Botswana: Police Arrest Four for Border Jumping

Ramotswa — Ramotswa police have expressed concern over locals who continue to cross the border illegally to and from South Africa.

This follows the arrest of four men while entering the country illegally from South Africa on Tuesday.

Ramotswa Police Station commander, Superintendent Keoagile Tau said in an interview, Thursday, that all of the four men were currently quarantined.

He said the men would be charged for their wrongdoings upon completion of their quarantine period.

Supt Tau said upon questioning the suspects, it emerged that the men had been in South Africa for some time.

He said all the culprits were residents of Ramotswa, hence he pleaded with the community to heed calls to avoid crossing the border illegally as they risked transmitting coronavirus.

Further, he said the police were enforcing the law to charge those who contravened the current Greater Gaborone lockdown regulations.

He said their main challenge was that of people who were not wearing masks and failing to stay home.
