Africa: Over 23,000 Deaths as Covid-19 Cases Rise Across Continent

As of August 12, the confirmed Covid-19 case total from 55 African countries has reached 1,065,299.

Reported deaths in Africa have reached 23,867 and recoveries 758,172.

South Africa has the most reported cases - 566,109, with deaths numbering 10,751. The next most most-affected countries are Egypt (95,834), Nigeria (47,290), Ghana (41,404), and Algeria (36,204).

The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
