Tunisia: Municipal By-Elections in Monastir - Low Turnout in Mootmar and Zaouiet Kontoch

Tunis/Tunisia — The turnout in the municipal by-elections held Sunday in Sahline Mootmar and Zaouiet Kontoch (Monastir governorate) stood at 26% and 13.7%, respectively.

The turnout of the police and military forces personnel who had casted their votes on Saturday had been low, standing at 11% in Sahline Mootmar and 9.75% in Zaouiet Kontoch, according to the Independent Regional Authority for the Elections(IRIE).

Five candidate lists, inclduing 1 partisan (Ennahdha) and 4 independents (Mostakbal, Adal, Souahlia and Wafa) stood for the 18-seat municipal council of Sahline Mootmar.

Besides, two candidate lists; Ennahdha (partisan) and Mothabra (independent) ran for the 12-seat municipal council of Zaouiet Kontoch.

"No offences were reported on the polling day," IRIE Coordinator in Monstir Bassem Hlaoua told TAP.
