Tunisia: Municipal By-Elections Held in Nabeul, Monastir, Siliana and Kasserine

Tunis/Tunisia — Voting in Korba municipal by-elections went smoothly Sunday, Coordinator of the local Independent High Authority for elections in Nabeul 1 Chiraz Arfaoui told TAP. Twenty polling centres and 65 polling stations were made available for the 32, 023 registered voters.

Seven candidate lists, including 6 independent, are eying 30 seats.

Sahline moatamar and Zaouiat Kantach (governorate of Monastir) reported poor voter turnout in municipal by-elections with respective rates of 3% and 2.53%, said Coordinator of the local election body Bassem Hlawa.

There are 15,000 registered voters in both communities; 21 polling stations and 4 polling centres were set up.

Five lists (including 4 independent) are in contention to take 18 seats in Sahline Moatamar. Two lists are seeking 12 seats in Zaouiat Kantich, Hlawa added.

Coordinator of the local section of the Independent High Authority for Elections Haed Belhaj Amor told TAP 14 polling centres and 24 polling stations were set up in Kesra (Siliana) as civilians cast their ballots on Sunday. The number of registered voters stands at 10, 512.

Law enforcement and military personnel voted Saturday. Four candidate lists (one partisan and three independent) contested 18 seats.

In Foussana (governorate of Kasserine), 715 voters went to the polls, said Coordinator of the local Independent High Authority for elections Adel Gassoumi. COVID-19 guidelines inside and outside polling stations were fully respected.
