Angola: Covid-19 - Benguela RTPCR Laboratory Broken

Benguela — At least two thousand samples are pending due to a breakdown at the only Covid-19 testing laboratory (RTPCR) in Benguela, which serves the central and southern regions of the country, the director of the Health Office, Manuel António Cabinda, said Monday.

According to the official, a technical team is on the ground trying to overcome the breakdown, and the solution of the problem is expected in the next few hours.

To date, the laboratory has processed 1,200 samples.

Of the 10 new cases registered at the weekend, seven were detected in Lobito municipality, five of which were diagnosed in the Army Academy (in the Luz district), one in Restinga, one in the 28 district, and two in Benguela city.

Depending on the cases registered at the academy, he said that work was being done to test the contacts, a factor that has led to the isolation of the academy itself for the time being,

"Unfortunately, we face this constraint of the breakdown of our only device", lamented the doctor António Cabinda.

The province of Benguela has 62 confirmed cases, with 11 recovered and three deaths.

Of the 49 active, two have moderate symptoms and 47 are asymptomatic.

He reaffirmed the need for strict compliance with prevention and combat measures.
