Botswana: Man Kills His Mother With a Hoe

Maitengwe — A 39- year old man of Maitengwe village is in police custody for allegedly killing his mother.

Tutume police station commander, Assistant Superintendent Lesego Kgosiemang said the man allegedly hit his 59-year-old mother with a hoe on the face on Sunday morning, while she was fetching water from a standpipe at their home.

He said preliminary investigations indicated that the accused had been arrested and detained overnight on Saturday, after he was reported for harassing and insulting his parents.

ASP Kgosiemang added that the man was then released on Sunday morning, went on a drinking spree and later on went back home to attack his mother. The suspect is said to have ran away after attacking his mother.

He said the woman was rushed to the hospital, where she was certified dead. He said fortunately, the police, with the help of the community, were able to arrest him at noon on Monday.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before Masunga Magistrate Court on Tuesday for a murder charge.
